African Nativity Scene "Hidden Secret"

A crib can hardly be more extraordinary: the Christmas scene, made entirely by hand from banana leaves and other plant parts, is hidden in a hollowed out gourd. Closed, the pumpkin, which is beautifully decorated from the outside, still looks quite inconspicuous.

The opening of the pumpkin is cleverly closed with two small cowrie shells and rubber bands. When you open this and remove the flap, the full wonder of the Christmas story unfolds before you. Because in the hollowed out pumpkin you will find

  • Joseph
  • the three kings
  • three shepherds with their animals
  • and of course the crib with baby Jesus

As probably one of the most unusual representations of the Christmas story, this African nativity scene is an eye-catcher beyond compare.

Crib to stand up or hang up

The figures inside the pumpkin are well attached so that they don't slip or get lost when the crib is stowed away in the basement until the next Christmas.

You can either set up the nativity scene or hang it on the neck of the gourd. This gives you complete flexibility with regard to your Christmas decorations and, as a hanging object, your crib is also safe from possible attacks by your house cat.
