Mariama Bâ, born in Dakar, became an icon of the African women´s literature with her first novel "Ein so langer Brief". It was the first document of an African woman about the contradictions and conflicts of women in Islamic communities. The novel was awarded with the NOMA, the most important Prize for African literature, in 1981.
